Principal's Message

Dear Families and School Supporters,

What wonderful weather we have experienced these past few days.  Though very welcome, the sun appears to be very vicious this spring, so it would be appropriate to reiterate our sun safety procedures.

Hats are to be worn outside at all times. No hat = restricted to sheltered areas.

Sunblock - please supply for your child. Children are to reapply as needed. Classrooms have a small supply, courtesy of Home and School, but it is far wiser to have a personal supply. (For allergy and hygiene reasons.)

Franklin Writers Competition.

Hearty congratulations to Jasper, Sienna, Marina and Greer for their winning entries on the 2019 Franklin writers competition.

We are all very proud you.

These stories were superbly written.

Well done team.

Hearty congratulations to our Kotare team for a fantastic cross country.  Thank you to all the parents and families who came to support their children.  You can read all about the successes in the sports section of this newsletter.

Year 5-8 Athletics

We ran athletics differently this year, in order to improve the way the events flowed.  By splitting it over 2 days we hoped that it would be less rushed and more manageable.  We would be interested to hear your views on the way the things went. For pics and results see the sports section.

Planning for next year

We are rapidly finalising staffing for 2020 and our planning for where teachers will teach.  As part of this process, we would like to consult you about your views for where your child will be.  Next week we will publish the school organisation document and we will embed a form in this newsletter for you to share your views.  In the meanwhile, for those who are unsure,  it will be a good idea to read about how composite classes work.  This will help answer some questions about why mixed year levels have nothing to do with achievement levels.

Walking school bus

The Walking School Bus and Auckland Transport put on an amazing end of year event for the walking school bus kids at Motat on Sunday past.

A few Bombay Walking Bus Students came along and they had a great time following a scavenger hunt, learning about what a forge does, original school desks and deciphering morse code.  They currently have a display of old computers and video games, and were quite taken with Pac Man and Donkey Kong….a simpler age!!

It looks like Isabella, Lila, Eden, Mae, Michaela and Stella had a blast. If you would like to join the walking school bus or you would like more information, contact Wendy Powell  021 183 9483.

School Bus

From time to time I receive calls from concerned parents about the school bus service.  Thank you for bringing these matters to my attention. I can assure you that we take it seriously and that issues are followed up immediately with the company.  Although matters are often handled sensitively and discreetly, I can assure you that action is taken and followed through.  If you have any concerns about the bus or the drivers, please bring them to my attention immediately. I will then follow the correct processes to get matters resolved.

Kind regards,

Paul
