Principal's Message

Dear Families and Friends,

House Fire

The Orme family ( Bombay School and Community Members) had a devastating fire damage their family home.  I spoke with Veronica last night. She said that the family are safe, the gold fish is safe as well as the dogs.  The home will most likely need to be rebuilt. The family wanted to thank the community for their heart warming support. The hugs and the offers of practical assistance were very much appreciated.

The school and our community is keen to support the family.  We will take our guidance from them - once they have had the chance to process the enormity of their loss and what their immediate needs are.  As a starting point we are gathering information about what could be donated to the family.  If you have goods to donate, please fill in this form.  We will then ask the family what they need and then we will contact you for the goods.  We will contact the family later today (Thursday) to talk about setting up a mechanism for financial donations.  Thank you, in advance, for your help.

Thank you to the out going board.

Deb SommervelMichael PascoSusie Stafford-BushMatt BagleyDave HemaMichelle McRobbie

It is with a sense of deep gratitude that we farewell the out-going board.  Chairperson, Matt Bagley, has steered the board with skill, competence and professionalism. His keen focus on student achievement has helped us to achieve some of the best results amongst comparable Franklin schools.  You may not know that Matt also provides IT support to the school for free, saving us approximately 20-30K per year.  Dave Hema helped us to improve our practice and improve the outcomes for Maori students.  With ERO's focus on excellence and equity, Dave has helped to put us in a good position for our next review.  Deb Sommervel moved from her role on the Home and School Committee to lend her expertise to the board. A crystal clear thinker and straight talker, she helped us to see the big picture. Deb served as the BOT secretary. Michelle McRobbie helped to bring rigour to board debate and thinking. She had a laser focus on student achievement and staff welfare. Michelle always helped the board to see an issue from multiple perspectives.  Michael Pascoe served as our property person.  He was tenacious in pursuit of excellent outcomes for our property projects. Michael helped the board to navigate the minefield of rules, regulations and processes that boards have to work through in order to progress property matters.  Susie Stafford-Bush was re-elected, unopposed, as Staff Rep for another term.  Susie has the staff's 100% confidence to represent them at board level.

Trustee Elections.

We have have had an amazing number of nominees for this election.  It speaks very well of the level of community engagement that we can draw on so many high calibre people who are keen to serve and put in the hard work for the benefit of all.  Ballots were put in the mail on Tuesday. Please look out for them. Please don't leave them on the bench and forget to vote.  :))
