Reading Recovery

Six year old pupils are given a searching diagnostic test of their reading ability and the associated skills.  If it is appropriate, children are placed into the Reading Recovery programme which operates at school.  This programme is funded by the Ministry of Education and the Board of Trustees and can cater for a limited number of children at one time.  The programme involves intensive one-to-one teaching for approximately 15 to 20 weeks.  Most children respond within that time and the high success rate enables the children to return to their normal classroom programme able to cope well and make satisfactory progress.

Mrs Brown is responsible for the administration of the programme.  Mrs Michie is the Reading Recovery teacher.  Mrs Pendergrast releases Mrs Michie from her classroom from 09.00 to 10.30 daily.
