General Information

How to read our School Entry Assessment Report

Reading:

  • Letter ID/letter recognition is out of 54 upper and lower case letters.

  • Concepts About Print is a test to find out what students know about books and print.

  • Reading Level - a running record, with the students reading a book, is taken to find the student's reading level.

Oral Language:

  • An oral question/answer test is administered to get information about the student's speech and language development.

Mathematics:

  • A number knowledge test is administered to find out a student's knowledge to ascertain their maths stage.  It covers:
    • Addition and Subtraction
    • Forwards number word sequence
    • Backwards number word sequence
    • Number indentification
    • Place Value

From the School Entry Assessment results the New Entrant teachers can provide teaching programmes to suit each students' stage of learning.

The report shows the next learning steps in reading, writing and mathematics and what parents can do to help at home.

How to read our After 1 Year at School Report

Reading:

Six Year Net

  • Letter ID/Recognition is out of 54
  • Concepts about print is out of 24
  • Word reading is out of 15
  • Hearing sounds is out of 37

Burt - this is a word recognition test that gives a reading age.

The Reading Level is based on an overall teacher judgement.  The teachers use basic vocabulary tests, blends tests, PM Benchmark Reading Assessments of unseen texts

and Learning Media - Ready to Read books of seen texts.

Writing:

The Writing Level is based on an overall teacher judgement.  The teacher can use 2-3 writing samples to mark against our school's learning progressions, the Ministry of Education's

learning progressions, standardised spelling tests and handwriting samples.

Mathematics:

A number test is administered to find the student's stage in mathematics in each of the areas on the report.

The report shows the next learning steps in reading, writing and mathematics and what parents can do to help at home.
