Dear Parents/ Caregivers,
I am writing to inform you that one of our students has recently been diagnosed with a tic disorder.
As a staff we will have the opportunity to meet with a psychologist to learn a little about what a tic disorder is and to consider along with the student and his mother how we can prepare to help him return to school.
We are likewise preparing ourselves and our students to make his return to school a successful one.
Each teacher is going to tell her or his students what a tic is so they have an age appropriate explanation of tics and are given some suggestions on how to respond to a person with a verbal and/or a motor tic.
We have created resource page on our website about Tic Disorder for your information which includes YouTube videos which I suggest you watch so as to gain some insight into the lives of children who have a tic disorder along with the families who are helping them to cope with their tics.

Should you have any queries about this matter I would welcome you contacting me and I will do my best to answer your questions; however we are all on a steep learning curve here and we ourselves have much to learn about tic disorders and how we as a school and a community can respond in a way that is understanding, compassionate and supportive of all.
Regards
