School Fees
Statement for the 2017 school fees were sent home during the first week of this term.  Thank you to those families who have made payment.
Unpaid accounts are now overdue.   Due date was 28 February 2017.
We have already paid the following items to the suppliers, so would appreciate reimbursement:
            - Reading Eggs, Mathletics, Technology Fees, Fulton Swimming Tuition, Classroom stationery.
The school is unable to extend credit for non curriculum related expenses.
Last year we had a shortfall from unpaid accounts.
As a result the Board has decided to adopt a user pays approach to non curricular activities.
For example : No camp fee = Not being allowed on camp.
Non payment of Console Management Fees = Chromebooks being unable to be used on site.
The board realises that some families experience genuine financial hardship.  In such cases we ask that you make an appointment to see the principal to discuss a manageable advance payment plan.
The school cannot sustain losses.
Mini Gala Thursday 23 March
The senior school have organised a Mini Gala for next Thursday. Bring along your coins for a fun filled day. They will also be having a Sausage Sizzle. $2/Sausage. Please complete your order at the end of this newsletter. Remember to click Submit once completed.

Australian Exams

As many of you already know, the school offers these exams in Mathematics, Science, English & Digital Technologies.
The price for these exams have, this year, gone up from $8.50 to $9.50 per subject.
We have the opportunity to have the 2016 price of $8.50 if we send our entries in by 31 March.  We of course, would like to take advantage of this for you.
An entry form is below, if you are interested, please complete and return the form with payment by Friday 24 March.
Payment can also be made directly to the school account [12-3023-0473410-00] (please use reference 'Aust Exams') but you must return the form so that I know which exams your child is entering.

School Leaders
We will be announcing school leaders later this term. I thought that it was important to share the selection process with you, so that you had some insight into how we arrive at our list of names.

This process begins the year before the announcement.

Teachers begin looking at how prospective leaders contribute to school life. They consider how proactive students are and how often they show their initiative. Contexts for this could be assemblies, mini gala's and calf club.

Other criteria include, but is not limited to :
on task behaviour
personal responsibility
school wide behaviour
track record
decorum
pride in the uniform
manners
relating to others
participation and contribution
consistency
"stickability"
resilience
the concept of others before self
reliability
ability to self regulate.

Toward the end of the year, the out going leaders are asked for their input.
Their vote is noted and it informs the decision that will be made by the end of term 1 the following year.
Then at the start of the year teachers begin weekly recordings of student's contributions to the running of the school.

Students are closely observed and their contributions and participation in school events is noted and discussed.

The principal also notes which students use their initiative and which students take the opportunities to serve others at school.

All senior school students are then asked to vote on their picks of student leader.

This vote informs the decision making process.

Then senior teachers meet and collate their data and shortlist candidates.

This list is then taken to the full staff who are asked for their input as many of the teachers would have taught the seniors at some point and will be able to attest to their leadership ability and potential.

Following that staff meeting the Assistant Principal and the Principal whittle the shortlist down to the final list, taking into account all data and gender representation.

Regards,
Paul

Franklin Zone Yr 7 & 8 Swimming
On Tuesday the 15th of March, 12 Year 7 & 8 students went to Zone swimming at the Jubilee Pools. We were lucky with the weather because it didn’t start to rain till we were finished.
The most exciting event for me was the first event 100m freestyle. I enjoy longer races which encourage me to work harder. The day went very smoothly and we finished with the relays. North Group was either first or second in these. The Girls Medley, made up of just Bombay Girls, was a clear first.

Franklin Triathlon
On Friday 10 March, 82 students participated in the Franklin Triathlon at Clark’s Beach. Year 4 to 6 had 1 lap of each leg of the race  and Year 7 to 8 had to do two laps of each leg of the race. The hardest part was the swim because we were swimming against the current. Bombay's podium finishers were in the 12 year old girls, 1st place was Bronwyn and 2nd place was Jorja: 11 year old boys 2nd place was Max: 10 year old year old girls 1st place was Sasha and 2nd place was Drew: 9 year old girls 3rd place was Angela and  8 year old boys 1st place was Jussi. Overall everyone had a great day apart from Jack whose bike seat was too tall. A new problem to watch for next year.
