Our new playground is complete.
Our new playground was completed on Friday. A few lucky children got to be the first to have a play on it. We'd like to thank our sponsoring families, Home and School, McRobbie Brothers, The Playground People and our community. You've brought such joy to our hearts! Ehara koe i a ia! We are lucky that we have you.  ( Views : 620 on Facebook / 45 Youtube views)
Akoranga
Our Akoranga Programme ( A period of learning and teaching) kicked off on Friday. Students rotate through to different teachers who offer them lessons over and above what they would normally receive in class. Why? Different teachers have different talents and strengths. We want ALL of our kids to get the benefits of working with these teachers. Also every child from year 4 - 8 will get to work with all teachers at our school - building relationships and trust with each other. That has got to be good for teaching and learning. Here is a 10 min snapshot of our first day of dance, drama, science, sports skills, swimming, mandarin, coding, animation, Te Reo Maori and Maori Tikanga and Art.  ( The video below has been viewed 168 Facebook views & 45 youtube views )
Whanau Goal Sharing Evening
We are going to do things differently this year.  All families are invited to attend a whanau hui ( family meeting) on Tuesday 4 April - starting at 3pm.
Starting @ 3pm to 4.30pm - meet in your child(ren)'s classroom.  See their work. Discuss their goals. Meet the teacher(s).
@ 4.30pm head to the hall for a 4.40pm (sharp) Kapa Haka & School Singing
@ 5pm - 6pm We are hosting a sausage sizzle. We will ask for RSVP's later this term,  to help us cater correctly.
@ 6pm - 7pm You're invited to a presentation on the teaching of reading at Bombay school. How we do it and how
                    you can help.
Concerns and Compliments
We are proud to be a community run school.  This is evident in the strong relationships that exist between parents, students, teachers and the school community at large.

The key to the success of these relationships is positive communication.  We pride ourselves on having an open and welcoming school.  Parents are free at anytime to make an appointment to meet with a teacher at a mutually convenient time.  We encourage parents to do this - don't wait for parent/ teacher interviews. They are minimum meeting requirements. We encourage regular contact.

If you would like to send a compliment - please make contact with your child's teacher/ staff member. Compliments are gratefully received and go a long way toward building good relationships.

If a concern arises for you, the best time to deal with it, is to raise it sooner rather than later.

School is a people centred endeavour. Concerns will arise. When they do, it is important for the parties to work together to reach an acceptable solution.

We would appreciate hearing about your concerns so that they can be dealt with early and effectively.  We ask that you raise your concerns with us directly and not with other parents or heaven forbid on Facebook! That is counter-productive.

Raising a concern

If your concern is about your child - your first contact should be your child's teacher.
If the issue remains unresolved, please contact the relevant Team Manager.
The team manager will work constructively to resolve the issue. The Team Manager will also brief either the Deputy Principal or Assistant Principal.  If this does not resolve the issue, only then should the principal become involved.
The principal will make every attempt to resolve concerns in an impartial manner. In the unlikely event that the principal cannot resolve the situation, you may be asked to place the concern in writing for the Board to consider.  The board does not consider verbal complaints nor complaints which have not gone via the principal first.
It can be upsetting for a teacher to have a complaint laid against them, but be assured that the school handles such matters in a sensitive and supportive manner for all concerned.  We strive to uphold everyone's rights and ask that you do the same.  We ask that you do not discuss your complaint with other parents as this is not fair.
If your concern is against the principal and this has not be resolved after discussing it with the principal, we encourage you to write to the board chair - who will then investigate your concerns.
The board deals with all concerns in a way that is fair and reasonable and in as timely as is practicable.  The board is guided by law, school policy, natural justice principles and school procedures.

* James McRobbie saved the school $15k by doing the ground work for the new playground.  We would not have started that project without him.  Thank you James & family.

* Matthew Bagley saved the school $30k over three years by acting as our tech support company.  We used that money to buy the furniture to setup Kotuitui's innovative learning space.

* Shelley Hoy took the lead on behalf of the Home and School team to project manage the playground contract.
She managed to keep us within budget. Thank you Shelley.

Hi everyone
Once again we are preparing for the Franklin Triathlon at school and encourage as many children as possible to compete.
It is a marvellous event which challenges all children. We will train in running each day, with 3 days running and swimming and then a practice triathlon with all 3 disciplines close to the event.
Please email me when you have entered your child as we do not get a list until the week of the event. Please enter early as 3 children missed out last year. This is a popular event and 400 children is the maximum for our whole area.
Looking forward to lots of competitors. See details below.
