Principal's Message
Welcome

We would like to welcome back all returning families and welcome all new families to the school.
We also welcome new Staff to our school.

Thank you for the privilege of teaching your child(ren) for another year. We are looking forward to another year of growth and innovation.  Our partnership with you is based on trust, mutual respect and good communication.  Our newsletter is a vital communication tool. Do we have your email address, latest contact details and have you downloaded the school App? This year is going to be full of new learning and exciting experiences we don't want you to miss out on what is happening at school.

Personal Property:
Please name all of your child's belongings. Lost property can be located in the hall foyer. We usually have a clean out of unclaimed items once a term. We strongly discourage children having cell phones at school.  If you need them to have one for safety reasons, (eg walking home alone), the phone will need to be handed into the office in the morning.  The school does not accept responsibility for any loss of damage - howsoever caused.

Lunch:
Please remember our drive for nude food lunch boxes. Please remove wrappers at home and pack a lunch box full of healthy unprocessed food.  Every child needs a water bottle which they are encouraged to have on hand in the classroom.  Please name drink bottles and tiffin break containers.

Hats:
Term 1 we have our hat policy in place. All children are expected to wear a school bucket hat. Please send this to school. If your child needs a new school sunhat this can be purchased through the uniform shop.

Swimming:
We will be swimming this term. Check with your child's teachers for the swimming timetable.  Please make sure your child has their togs, towel and googles and these are named. If for any reason your child cannot swim on a particular day teachers will need a note of explanation or email sent to them.

Library:
To help the school reduce the loss of school library books, please ensure that your child returns them each week.

Chrome books:
If your child comes to school with their NEW chrome book they will need to take it to Mr Petersen's office so that it can be set up. Please make sure it is clearly named and the bag is named also.  Please note we can only connect chromebooks to our system. Please do not buy any other type of laptop.

Headphones:
Please ensure your child has a set of headphones to use in the class. No ear buds. Please label the headphones.

Camp:
Please enquire about camp dates from your classroom teacher. If you would like to help out on an overnight camp, please ensure that you download and complete a police vet form. Then send the form to the school office.  We recommend that you do this asap because vetting can take up to two months to complete.  We cannot allow un-vetted helpers.

School Donation:
We would appreciate prompt payment of your donation. We rely on this money to help us provide the excellent standards we all expect of Bombay School.

Fees:
We would appreciate prompt payment of any outstanding fees which will be noted in your account statement which will be sent home this week with the eldest child.  We cannot extend credit beyond one month.  ( Fees, such as Reading Eggs & Mathletics Subscriptions, Hapara Teacher Dashboard, Google console licence, Technology Fees or stationery are not donations and are payable by 20 March.)
Any fees that are still outstanding from 2016 are due NOW and we would appreciate payment before 20 February.
We reserve the right to end credit to any families who are in debt in excess of 21 days.

Open Door:
Please do not hesitate to get in touch with your child's teacher if you have any questions.  Make an appointment for a catch up.  Please avoid trying to catch up during teaching time 8.20am - 3pm.   Teachers are often getting ready for class or doing duty during that timeframe.

Welcome back.  We've rolled up our sleeves and are ready to get another great year underway.

Regards
Paul

Swimming Lessons
Bracu
Hi everyone
Once again we are preparing for the Franklin Triathlon at school and encourage as many children as possible to compete.
It is a marvellous event which challenges all children. We will train in running each day, with 3 days running and swimming and then a practice triathlon with all 3 disciplines close to the event.
Please email me when you have entered your child as we do not get a list until the week of the event. Please enter early as 3 children missed out last year. This is a popular event and 400 children is the maximum for our whole area.
Looking forward to lots of competitors. See details below.
Mrs Rolfe

Friday 10 March, 2017 at Clarks Beach starting at 9.30 am.

This year we are only offering on-line registration via the Fulton Swim School website – www.fultonswimschool.co.nz
please enter as soon as possible.

Limited entries – To keep our event safe and FUN for all participants and their supporters, the committee has placed a limit on the number of entries this year.  This has been set at 430 and once we reach this number, we cannot accept any further entries.  Plenty of keen triathletes have already registered so please  enter as soon asap so you don't miss out.

Auckland Council and Kid’s Tri Training - we again have the team at the Auckland Council taking some training before the event.  If kids are keen to learn the ‘tricks of the trade’ then training sessions will occur at Bledisloe Park on the following days:

Tuesday 14th February – 4-5 pm

Tuesday 21st February – 4-5 pm

Tuesday 28th February – 4-5 pm

Tuesday 7th March – 4-5 pm

Kids need to bring along their bikes, helmets, running shoes and a spare t-shirt so they can practice transitions.  Note – there will be no swimming component to these training sessions.

Also available on the Fulton Swim School website are age appropriate training programmes.  These started Monday 30 January so just click on the triathlon tab at the bottom right-hand corner of the home page and from there you’ll find a downloadable file.  There’s also all the information you’ll need to prepare your students for the day.

And a couple more reminders - this year it is the responsibility of the parents/caregivers to ensure their child’s bike and helmet are road worthy, safe and in correct working order. Aqua shoes/socks are again compulsory for the swimming leg!

Entries, with payment, need to be completed on-line by Wednesday 1 March 2017 and again this year, we cannot accept late entries.

What’s new?  There will be a modification to the way we time this year’s event as we’ll be using electronic timing chips that will be attached to the student’s race number bib.  This is a little different from the transponders they had to wear around their ankle last time (if this is not their first time of course!).  They’ll collect their race number bib at registration on the day and then attach it to the front of their t-shirt.  After their swim, they’ll enter transition and must put on their t-shirt with race number attached before heading out on their bike leg.  And bonus … they get to keep their race number once finished!
