Bomb Threat Hoax Calls- Procedures
Last week Valley School got a hoax call. We thought that we would be proactive and keep you informed about the procedures we would follow in the event of a call - hoax or not.

We will evacuate. [Long continuous ringing of the school bell.]
Call police
Take a roll call. Establish that everyone is safe.
Send out an alert to parents advising that everyone is safe.
Let police do their job.
Please don't come to school or phone the school - we will update you via the app.
Update parents, via the APP, every 15 minutes if possible.

Below is an email that we received from the Ministry of Education  : Email received from MOE 3.52pm 26/02/2016

"The threats received to date are being investigated by the NZ Police. It is their position that these threats have been generated off shore.

The Ministry of Education is currently represented at the NZ Police National Command and Coordination Centre to ensure a proactive and coordinated response can be undertaken in the event of more threats to schools."

Chromebook Maintenance
Starting this week the school will begin checking that all chromebooks are enrolled correctly.  This is part of our regular checks and maintenance aimed at ensuring that the devices are optimised and safe for school use.  The only impact seen by students will be :
1. Any data stored on the machine will be wiped. Please save this on data sticks or your Google Drive if you want to keep it.  It is school policy that data should be stored in the student's Google Drive.
2. Once the machine is enrolled, you will have to re-enter the password for your home network.

Junior School Breakfast @ Camp Friday 11 March
Next Friday the Juniors (rooms 4,5,6,&7) have been invited to have breakfast at the Y3 camp - at 9am.
The students will need to bring a named 'ditty bag' containing a named plate, bowl, cup, fork, spoon and tea towel.
Safety at the School Gate
Park safely and keep our kids safe

This year our school is participating in Auckland Transport’s ‘Safety at the School Gate’ programme. Drivers who stop in the wrong place to drop off passengers put the safety of children at risk. Parking officers will be on patrol outside the school this year and will be issuing tickets to drivers who park illegally.

The agreed approach is ‘zero tolerance’ – There will be no warnings issued, you will receive a ticket if you are double parked, parked on yellow lines, or over someone’s driveway – or for any other vehicle safety offence.

Please park legally to keep our children safe and to avoid being ticketed.

Home & School Easter Raffle
The Bombay Home and School would be very grateful for all donations, big or small, for this year’s raffle.
This exciting, fun raffle is the highlight for many Bombay Children building up to their Easter break.
Lucky winners are announced at the conclusion of the final assembly before Easter.
Prizes are split into sensible quantities, aiming for more children getting a little something, rather than a little getting very sore stomachs!
Goodies can be dropped off at the School Office, in return for House Points.
Tickets are available from the office 50c each.
Australian Schools Competitions
These competitions are held by the University of New South Wales Education Testing Centre and compare the relative performance of students in each school year, in various curriculum areas.
Students who enter the competitions tend to be high achievers in the tested Curriculum areas, but the competitions are open to all who wish to enter.
If you wish your child to enter a competition, please complete an entry form available from the office and return it to school with the total payment due.  The last day for entries will be MONDAY 21 MARCH.

Parent Helpers & Police Vetting
Are you a parent who regularly helps out at school?  Are you wanting to be a camp helper?  Why not consider consenting to a police vet which will be valid for 3 years? We will keep the result on file while your child is at school. You will then be cleared as a helper.  Doing this now will prevent a bottle neck when camp time comes around.   If you'd like to be emailed a consent form, please fill in your email address below. Don't forget to scroll right to the end of this newsletter and to click the blue submit button. We won't get your details, if you don't.
