Sunsafety
Please ensure that your child has a school-approved sunhat and that he/ she is applying sunblock before school.  The sun is particularly vicious this time of the year, we are encouraging children to cover all exposed skin with sunblock. Classrooms have a supply for top-up application during the day.   No sunhat = no play in unshaded areas.

Swimming to start
Classes will start swimming from Tuesday 6 December. Children will need to bring a bag with togs and a towel. The timetable will be in next week's newsletter.

2017 Learning Spaces for Kotuitui, Kakahu and Tuhono
Next year the students in our three learning spaces Tuhono year 3 & 4, Kotuitui Year 5 & 6 and Kakahu year 7 & 8 will be assigned a base teacher. This teacher will be responsible for the student's pastoral needs, monitoring academic progress, and the first contact for the student's parents or caregiver.  This way of organising the student learning areas allows our teachers to meet the student's needs by developing personalised learning programmes.  Our student data this year for students who have been working in divergent learning spaces, reflects that student progress has been significant. The teachers are already planning and developing exciting learning programmes for next year.

Home and School
The Home and School Team held its last meeting on 28 November.  It was a wonderful chance for the team to unwind and to thank everyone for their contributions to the school this year.  Deb Sommervel informed the meeting that she would be standing down at the end of the financial year, which is March 2017.  The team also farewelled Claire Nesdale as this is her last year running the chips stall.   The team will take a break and then regroup early next year.  There are already some exciting ideas in the pipeline.  Thank you team.
New Playground - Family Plaques
We anticipate installation of the new playground in early 2017.  Would having a family plaque, acknowledging your contribution, be of interest to you?  We are now accepting donations of $100 and above, from families who would like this legacy item.  The plaques would be located as a display in the retaining wall of the new playground.
A special (paper) notice, with a reply slip, has been sent home - there are additional copies in the school office.
Thanks to those families and businesses who have already donated.  We have already received a total of $2,400.00!

Tuesday 6 December Champion of Champions Athletics
We’ve started planning next year’s Fulton Swim School Franklin Primary Schools Triathlon (FPST) and thought we’d give you a heads up……

The date is set for:  Friday 10 March, 2017 at Clarks Beach starting at 9.30 am.

AGAIN THIS YEAR:  We are ONLY accepting on-line registration and payment via the Fulton Swim School website – Go to www.fultonswimschool.co.nz/triathlon.htm and click on the Triathlon Online Entries button.  You may choose to enter some of your students this way and collect cash from them, but remember you must have parental/guardian consent.  All other information can be found under this button.  There will be no postal entries.  Otherwise, if any of your families cannot do the online registration and payment due to no computer or credit card, then send them along to the Fulton Swim School office at Patumahoe School or Puni School where Daniel and his team can help them out.

Limited entries:  To keep our event safe and FUN for all participants and their supporters, the committee has placed a limit on the number of entries for next year.  This has been set at 430 and once we reach this number, we cannot accept any further entries.  Please make sure you register in plenty of time so that you won’t miss out.

What’s new?  There will be a modification to the way we time next year’s event as we’ll be using electronic timing chips that will be attached to the student’s race number bib.  This is a little different from the transponders they had to wear around their ankle last time.  They’ll collect their race number bib at registration on the day and then attach it to the front of their t-shirt.  After their swim, they’ll enter transition and must put on their t-shirt with race number attached before heading out on their bike leg.  And bonus … they get to keep their race number once finished!

And back by popular demand:  Four triathlon training sessions with Auckland Council at Bledisloe Park from 4-5 pm on Tuesday 14th, 21st and 28th February, and Tuesday 7th March.

All registration information, training programmes, and course map can be downloaded from the Fulton Swim School website www.fultonswimschool.co.nz

Entries need to be completed on-line with payment, by Wednesday 1st March 2017 and again this year, we cannot accept late entries.

*Note from Mrs Rolfe- After a most successful 90 entries this year I would like to see 100+ for 2017. We will train at school and have our practice day for the newbies. For those children with serious ambitions training needs to begin in the holidays. Thank you to all our parents and caregivers who have given the children such wonderful support during the year. Have a wonderful Christmas and holidays and then back into again in 2017!
