Important advisory from NZ Police
Hello,

I am the new Supervisor for the Counties Manukau School Community Officers and this is a quick message on safety around schools.

Police are committed to ensure New Zealand children and young people are able to live and learn free from harm.

With this in mind Police have identified that this time of year shows an increase in suspicious activity around schools in relation to students being approached by people not known to them.

This email is designed to provide simple safety advice to children, young people, Schools and Communities with regard to the risks associated with Children being approached by people they don’t know who offer lifts or invite them towards a vehicle.

Police advise students to walk to school in groups whenever possible and avoid routes that are out of sight from the general public.  Police strongly support schools operating walking school buses and it is recommended to utilise these facilities whenever possible.

However, if approached by someone they don’t know children should be advised the following.  Decline any invitation and move away from the person and vehicle immediately. If possible they should seek out other students/ known people and if safe, take a note of what the person looks like, a description of the vehicle and the registration number.

Once at their destination children should be encouraged to report the incident immediately to a teacher or parent and write down what they saw and heard whilst fresh in their memory.

Also if a vigilant teacher or parent notices someone acting suspiciously around students they should take note of the person and vehicle description and any identifying features.

School staff and parents are advised to contact Police on 111 straight away and provide whatever information they can on this type of behaviour no matter how vague.  Police can act on this and possibly identify patterns and trends based on the smallest bit of info.

Please contact your School Community Officer who will support you in delivering this message to your students and community.

Thank you for your time.

New Playground - Family Plaques
We anticipate installation of the new playground in early 2017.  Would having a family plaque, acknowledging your contribution, be of interest to you?  We are now accepting donations of $100 and above, from families who would like this legacy item.  The plaques would be located as a display in the retaining wall of the new playground.
A special (paper) notice, with a reply slip, will be sent home soon.
See below for the playground concept picture.
Thanks in advance.

There are over 13.5 million Syrian refugees in the world and around half of them are children!  Do you really want to stand there and pretend you don’t know about it while THOUSANDS die each year trying to lead a better life?  Please help them by donating to UNICEF to help provide Syrian refugees with the necessities they desperately need by following the link above.

Thank you for time and consideration.

This request is from Danica, who has independently started a fundraiser as part of the Year 5/6 Genius Hour.
