Room 9 & 10 News
You may recall that we renovated room 9 & 10 last year.  By creating this flexible learning space we've supported our pedagogy ( personalized learning). After the holiday break you will notice that the classroom environments will be different.

Some of the changes will be:

Every morning both classes will meet in the Room 10 space for their roll call, notices and general business.
Every child has been allocated their own tote tray and this will house all of their books, kete and chromebooks. They will take this with them to be used in both spaces as needed. This flexible arrangement will allow students more control over which space they work in.

Over the last two terms Room 9 and 10 have already been cross grouping for mathematics and this is proving to be very successful. From the beginning of Term 3 they will be continuing this and doing the same for reading. In the future they will also be cross grouping for writing.

Rochelle and Kim work collaboratively, assuming control of both classes as one group of children. They plan together and assess together. They collaborate on the way children are grouped for teaching and learning.  This way all children are getting the benefit of two highly skilled professionals. Our data backs up what we are doing.

If you have any questions about this, please email me ( Paul )  ppetersen@bombay.school.nz or talk to Kim and Rochelle.
It's always best to get your information about these innovative changes from the source.

Regards - Paul

Student led conferences : 5 July 2016
Thank you to everyone who came along to share their children's learning.   By all accounts it was a positive experience for all.  Our prime goal with these conferences is to provide children with the skills to talk about their learning.  That way they take ownership of it.  We've noticed how the level of sophistication of these conversations increases as children gain more experience doing it.  Thank you for your support.

Scholastic Book Fair
Thank you to everyone who came to our Book Fair and purchased books. A HUGE thank you to the parents who came along to help run the Fair, we really appreciate your help.
