Calf Club Notice Number 1
“Bombay School Calf Club Saturday 28th September 2019”
For those new to the school my name is Kylie Faulkner and I am the Co-ordinator of the Bombay School Calf Club. There are a lot of new families and children to the Bombay community, so you may ask “what is Calf Club?”
Calf Club is an annual event which is organised by the Home and School Team (PTA in old school terms). Calf Club has a long tradition in Bombay School and will be in its 82nd year. The Bombay School children have the opportunity to rear their own animal – a calf, lamb, goat, chicken or pig from home and then bring them to school on our “Calf Club Day”. We have projects and garden options available for the children who do not wish to raise an animal.
Children learn about responsibility, perseverance and patience as well as create special bonds with their animals.
Calf Club is also about connecting with our community. It is a chance for our parents, grandparents, pre-schoolers, neighbours and ex-pupils to come and visit the school, see what our students have been learning and enjoy some of our great stalls.
Calf Club is also our major fundraiser for the year. Funds raised from Calf Club go towards major projects that the School cannot afford to do on its own. After Calf Club last year, we donated $15,000 to kick off the new school pool fund.
As well as this we donate $5,000 towards each syndicate to be put to use in Education Outside the Classroom. This ensures activities like School Camps cost a lot less for each child to attend.
Last year we raised a mammoth $45K. WELL DONE TO EVERYONE INVOLVED!
So, what can you do as a parent at Bombay School?
Come along to one of our Home and School Meetings. They are held in the staffroom once at month at 7pm. The next one is our AGM and will be on Monday 11th March at 7pm.
Do you have any great ideas for new stalls or raffle items?
Would you like to help co-ordinate one of our stalls? We are looking for a new “cold drinks” stall co-ordinator.
